Clonshaugh SSFC 5 OLV 35s 3 (MARTIN DUNICAN ,PAT WHITE ,JONNY DUTTON(subject to dubious goals committee))

Olv squad;
MARK MCCABE,
ANTO KELLY , GARRETH DONOVAN , MARTIN DUNICAN , WILLIE MURPHY,
                     JAMES MCCABE , PAT WHITE , PHIL LOWNDES(C) , IAN CLIFFORD,

                                             MARK MATTHEWS , JONNY DUTTON,

                                  PAT HEARY ,PADDY MCEVOY ,JEFF MCCARTHY ,

                                  CLUB CAPTAIN JAMES COATES(injured in warm-up)

                                                     MANAGER JOHN LOWNDES .

A devastating result away to Clonshaugh , firstly captain James Coates injured his knee in the warm-up and then OLV handed the home side a two goal lead from two silly mistakes in the opening quarter of the game ,OLV were playing really well after the early setbacks and drew level after two good goals ,the first a typical powerful header from big Martin Dunican after another one of Marky Matthews driven corners for his third assist of the season,the second came from another Matthews corner, this time the ball wasn't cleared properly and after a goal-mouth scramble the ball was lashed in from Pat White who was making his debut for OLV ,the away team should have went into the break a goal ahead when a penalty was awarded after James McCabe but hacked down after another one of his long runs but unfortunately Mark Matthews spot-kick struck a post and went out for a goal kick on the stroke of half-time .

HALF-TIME 2-2

The second half began with optimism as John Lowndes made some good tactical changes to the side but it soon turned sour for Olv as they conceeded a third goal after four minutes when a Clonshaugh attacker wasn't tracked properly and he ran through unimpeded to score past the unlucky Mark McCabe who had made some super saves to keep OLV in the game ,OLV tried to draw level with some good play, particularly coming from Pat Heary who as usual calmly controlled the ball in mid-field but try as hard as they did just couldn't get the breakthrough from all their presssure and then things took a turn for the worse as the injury toll mounted ,this time Matthews had to be carried off after a nasty knee injury,OLV finally got a bit of good luck and the equalizer they deserved when Dutton put a ball into the box and it went into the back of the net thanks to a touch from the head of a Clonshaugh defender ,a draw looked likely now and probably would have been a fair result but the lack of concentration struck again and OLV shipped two more goals in the last five minutes .

FULL-TIME 5-3

Another bad result for the lads but lots of positives and hopefully we can get everybody back from injury and get a positive outcome from our next game..Well done lads.
