OLV had a comprehensive victory over Rivermeade in Sundays Division 2 clash at Markievicz Park. An impressive display from the home team saw off any threat posed by their opponents.
For the first fifteen minutes or so, the game did not see either team threaten to break the deadlock but on 20 mins Noel Stapletons beautifully flighted pass put Deco Byrne in on goal and after a very adept first touch, he calmly fired home to put OLV one up. Stapo then had a glorious opportunity to make it 2-0 but sliced wide from Deco Byrne's pass, meanwhile Byrne was taken down in the box and could have had a penalty. 2-0 wasnt far away and Byrne was again on target with another composed finish after 25 minutes.
Rivermeade had a couple of chances and were unlucky with both, one just over the bar from all of 65 yards and another, a header which hit the crossbar. Even when Rivermeade did find the net, it never looked like it was going to make much of a difference to the final result such was OLVs ability to create chances.
In The second half OLV stamped their dominance on the game with a well crafted goal (65 Mins), a great passing movement that left Colm Quigley free on the wing and his cross was met by (Goal a Game!) Noel Stapleton who tapped the ball home 3-1.
Deco Byrne was reintroduced after being substituted in the first half and completed his hat-trick (70 Mins) when he rounded the keeper to slot home from 10 yards for another well taken goal 4-1.
Keith Reid got his name on the scoresheet with a very cool finish, he found the corner of the net from the edge of the box (85 Mins), leaving the Rivermeade goalkeeper no chance of getting even a fingertip to the ball 5-1.
There were many solid performances on the day (Too many to mention) from the starting eleven right through to their replacements.
OLV ran out deserved winners on the day and looked a force to be reckoned with in Division 2.
