Pheonix Rovers * OLV 2 (G.Byrne 2)

As each player limped towards the pitch last Sunday, Phoenix Rovers must have thought all their birthdays had come together and they had! I am not going to publish the score this time as it would serve no purpose. Suffice to say that after Five OLV goalkeeping changes during the match, the scoreline is non-important.

George Byrne scored his sixth goal in three games to leave him as second highest scorer for the season, just one behind Captain Pat Heary. Martin Dunican had another impressive display at centre half and left full back Willie had a superb day on his OLV comeback.

Early on Dave Kelly had started in goal and was looking very competent before injury put paid to his day. Immediately after his substitution OLV conceded two goals and after this another goalkeeping change followed. Half time was to see another goalkeeping change and yet another with about 20 mins left on the clock, leaving it at FIVE in all.

Many of the OLV players had played twice each week for the past four weeks and even the most hardened professional would have found that difficult enough, without age being brought into the equation.

On reflection: Last year saw a great spirit within the team and we must keep on supporting each other right through, from season to season both on and off the pitch. We have some very good players and we will soon get back to competing at our best. Looking forward to a new season, definitely!
