A hard fought game that ended in 3 well earned points for us away to Stamullen.
We took the lead early in the game when Jonny Dutton ran on to a good Garreth Boyle through ball and beat the keeper with power from just inside the penalty area, we probably should have scored more in the first half as our central midfield duo of Boyle and Emmet Fitzpatrick were pulling all the strings and linked well with wingers Brian Fitzsimons and Keith Derwin ,but we just couldn't get the ball into the net ,we were lucky to go into half-time in the lead thanks to keeper Rory Keogh making a few excellent saves late in the half.
Stamullen came at us right from the tipoff but our rearranged defence of Mahon, Farrell, Dunican and Shannon were all having a good game and dealt with the home teams attacks with ease. We finally got the games next goal when Jamesy Coates was brought down in the box and up stepped Stewy O'Reilly to place the spot kick just inside the keepers left hand post. We should have played out the rest of the game in comfort but Garreth Mahon was unlucky to give away a penalty which Stamullen scored to bring them back into the game and searching for an equalizer, we were up for this game though and another quality ball from midfield played in O'Reilly to do what he does best and he scored another good goal to give us a two goal cushion again. Stamullen weren't going to give up without a fight and they were lucky to score again when Keogh was obstructed on his line from a set piece and as the referee missed the foul the goal stood and gave gave us a nervous last ten minutes but we held on and claimed all the points.
Well done to everyone involved in the game and now we can hopefully go on a nice run and climb up the league table.
