Losing at home was definitely not the result we wanted for our first game of the season.
With all due respect to the opposition this was a game we should have got some points from but fair play to Balrothery they were on their game and took the chances that they were given and punished us with two first half goals, we did play some good football in stages and equalised from our best move of the game when Emmet Fitzpatrick went on a run down the left wing and sent over a cracking cross for striker Stewy O'Reilly to expertly head into the top right-hand corner, the goal should have settled our first game nerves but Balrothery broke through the questionable onside decision from the referee and again took the lead, apart from a few efforts from the new strike partnership of O'Reilly and the impressive Mark Fitzsimons the away team were relatively comfortable in seeing out the half. Early in the second half of the game we were given the chance to equalize again, the referee pointed to the spot when Fitzpatrick was fouled in the box and up stepped the ever reliable skipper James Coates and after a couple of minutes wait to take the penalty he was unlucky with the effort as it was sent over the bar, the missed opportunity seemed to deflate our team and rally the opposition, they could now sense that the points would be theirs and they switched to an ultra defensive formation for the remainder of the game and saw off our endless pressure to take all three points.
Not how we pictured our first result but there were a lot of positives to take from the game so hopefully we can put some points on the league table this weekend when we host one of our old rivals in Portrane Afc.
