OLV crashed out of the Grimes cup in the cruelest way when they were beaten on penalties by St Maelruans in the markievcz park on Sunday morning,this was a great game that had everything but goals as both teams desperately wanted to progress to the semi-finals.With this cup being OLVs last chance of silverware the ballyfermot team tore into maelruans from the first whistle and could have taken the lead several times but for some good defending and the want of better finishing ,St Maelruans had chances themselves but the home teams defence of Kelly ,Donovan ,Coates ,Collins and Ronan stood firm and stand in keeper Brian commanding his area well and comfortably dealing with anything that came at him ,the central midfield duo of McCabe and Lowndes worked very hard and covered every area of the pitch while wingers Delgarno and Houlahan worked tirelessly up and down the flanks helping out the fullbacks and crossing balls in for strikers Stapleton ,Matthews and Dutton who all worked hard against a resolute maelruans defence.The game continued at a frantic pace throughout with both teams taking turns at having the possession and pressure but neither team could get the important breakthrough and it soon became inevitable that the roulette of penalties would decide the game and that's exactly what happened but it was the Tallaghfornians who held their nerve better and scored all of their spotkicks with OLV missing two after Matthews and Delgarno buried theirs and exiting the competition . Congratulations to Maelruans and hopefully they can go on and win the cup but every member of OLVs playing squad and manager deserve great credit for all the hard work and effort .
