OLV 35s 1 (M.Matthews) Irishtown f.c 1

OLV squad; Rory Keogh, Anto Kelly, Martin Dunican, Phil Lowndes, Dave Kelly, Stuart Houlahan, James Coates(C), Mark McCabe, Dave Delgarno, Mark Matthews, Noel Stapleton, Ian Clifford, Jonny Dutton, Pat Heary.

Manager; John Lowndes.

OLV were only minutes away from a well deserved victory on Sunday morning but Irishtown snatched a late equalizer to take a share of the points, the game started at a fast pace and both teams had good opportunities to open the scoring but a combination of good goalkeeping and defending kept the sides level for the first 20 odd minutes, when the opening goal came it was worth waiting for as OLV broke up an Irishtown attack, played the ball out of defence to James Coates who passed the ball forward to Mark Matthews who lobbed the onrushing keeper from a good distance(25/30) yards,OLV deserved the lead and could have scored again but the away team defended well,OLV were forced to make a change after 35mins when Stewie Houlahan suffering a knee injury was replaced by Ian Clifford, the rest of the half played out with Irishtown pushing forward but the home defence stood firm with keeper Rory Keogh making some fine saves. halftime 1-0 The second half began without any major changes made by manager John Lowndes as the whole team were playing well and continued where they left off as they put the pressure on Irishtown right from the whistle, the home team made a couple of substitutions after almost an hour just to keep things fresh and it could have payed off but once again the away team defended well, the match continued on at a good pace with the clock ticking down it looked as though OLV would get a deserved 3 points but as luck would have it Irishtown conjured up an equalizer ,this goal set the tone for the final ten minutes and both teams might have got a winner but OLV's back line kept their nerve and Rory Keogh once again made super saves, another good sign for OLV saw Pat Heary make an appearance after months out injured, OLV had a couple more chances but some poor decisions saw the game end all square. Full time 1-1 Well done to the lads all of whom put in a good shift against a though Irishtown team.
