OLV have every right to feel they should have got at least a point from this game as they dominated nearly all the play and possession in Markievcz park on Sunday morning. The home team once again looked very sharp early on and the midfield trio of Pat Heary,Phil Lowndes and Matt Connelly had the tallaghfornians chasing shadows as they passed the ball around with confidence and tackled well to break up any of the rare Maelruans attacks but as the half wore on the visitors slowly came back into the game and could have scored only for a top-drawer save from impressive keeper Dave Kelly, this seemed to give Maelruans some momentum and they took the lead soon after when they broke through OLV's high defensive line and slotted the ball under the advancing Kelly despite the best efforts of fullback Willie Murphy's last ditch tackle, the first half still had some time left when Rory Keogh came on for Derek Dunne who had put a very tough shift, it looked inevitable that the hosts would be rewarded with a goal their fine play deserved but alas it wasn't to be as it was Maelruans who almost scored again but for another class save from Kelly and a superb goal line clearance from Garreth Donovan.

Half-time 0-1

The second half began with John Lowndes making just two changes that saw Mick Collins and Gavin Clifford come on for Willie Murphy and Matt Connelly who both gave fine performances and worked their socks off in the first half, the game resumed with the teams sharing the opening exchanges and OLV continued the press forward with Anto Kelly and Ian Clifford working well together on the right flank and Maelruans couldn't get their own passing game going and resorted to a long ball game that was dealt with easily by centre backs Martin Dunican and Donovan, with still no goal to show for all the hard work more changes saw Anto Maher and Liam Agar come into the match and keep the pressure on but the longer the game went on OLV just couldn't score and even with going three up front Maelruans could smell victory and with OLV now pushing high up the pitch they scored a second goal with only moments remaining and so the game ended but every member of OLVs squad can be proud of the effort they put in and know that with performances like this one a lot more points will be on the board.Well done lads!
