OLV 3 (M. Elliot, M.Matthews 2) Clontarf Villa 1

OLV finished the 2011/2012 Season in style with a well deserved  at home to an in form Clontarf side.  The win was enough to cement their top three finish for the second year in a row.  The home side dominated the early parts of the game and had more than a few chances to open the scoring within the first 20 mins.  It was a well driven daisy-cutter from Mark Elliot that broke the hearts of Clontarf and set OLV up for another win, the ball was much too hot to handle for the Clontarf keeper. 1-0.

Only a few minutes had passed when the second goal came from Mark Matthews (who also hit the post), who needed the goal to pull level as top scorer with Noel Stapleton.  2-0.   OLV were the much better team to that point, but then as if thinking that a two goal lead was to be enough, they took their foot off the gas and allowed Clontarf back into the game.   Sloppy defending, to say the least, allowed a Clontarf striker a one on one with the OLV keeper and the striker slotted home from 12 yards.  2-1 HALF TIME

OLV once again dominated for spells and again it was Mark Matthews who put OLV back in front by two goals with a superb finish.  The home team had to do some defending later on as Clontarf pushed for another goal, but it was not to be and OLV ran out deserved winners in the end.  3-1 FULL TIME

This capped off a great season and while it could have been a much better season in terms of league position, third place will suffice.  Well done to all the boys and to the Manager for all the hard work throughout the season.
