OLV showed on Sunday why they are one of the best teams in the over 35 league's with a comprehensive 2-0 win over Clonshaugh at Markievcz park, after a bad result in the last league game at home OLV badly wanted to win this game against a very good Clonshaugh side and from the first whistle they set about their task, pressing Clonshaugh back and keeping the ball well, constantly moving and making space while the visitors barely had any of the ball,OLV were really up for this encounter and everyone seemed to be on top their game with all eleven men looking very fit and sharp, the first goal came midway through the half when Mark Matthews scored an absolutely smashing goal, after picking up a pass out on the left wing he cut back in on his right foot and curled the ball right into the top corner from huge distance.1-0
After the celebrations when the game restarted OLV set about getting another and almost did when Mark Elliott had a shot from about 35yards but his brilliant effort crashed back off the bar,the second goal wouldn't be long in coming as once again Elliot played a fine pass for the on-running Matthews who was one on one with the keeper and incredibly put the ball in the net with a superb lob from just outside the penalty box.2-0

Halftime 2-0

OLV made only minor changes at the interval with Anto Maher joining the game on the left wing as OLV wanted to stay in command of this tie,Clonshaugh though had more of the ball in the opening stages of this half and only for the impressive OLV defense could have scored a couple of goals but OLV soon regrouped and could have scored a third when Noel Stapleton showed some unbelievable tekkers when he received the ball in the box flicked it up and over the defender and his deft effort was denied when the keeper made a fine save.OLV lost another key defensive player to a hamstring injury but they had a more than capable replacement in Mick Collins who slotted in at right-back of the reshuffled back line. The OLV manager made more changes during the half in a bid to keep the team fresh and it certainly worked as OLV controlled the rest of the match with Clonshaugh offering little more than some pressure at corner kicks and a couple of shots all dealt with well by keeper Dave Kelly.

Full-time 2-0

Well done to all OLV players and management for this victory with great performances from all over, particular mentions should go to the lads that played every minute of this very tough game,Anto Stanley brilliant at left back,Mark Matthews two top class finishes,James Coates solid as ever,Garreth Donovan won every that came at him,Philip Lowndes flew into every tackle,Dave Kelly commanded his area well all day and especially Mark Elliott with an outstanding game in the centre of midfield.
Bring on Portmarnock !!!
