EMU Sevitt 1 OLV 3 (M.MATHEWS 2,M.CONNELLY)

OLV ON THE 'MARK
OLV enjoyed another good away day on Sunday as they picked up a further 3 points to move into second place in their quest to make a claim on Baldoyle's top spot.

OLV started this game with an almost full strength line-up of ,Dave Kelly,Garreth Donovan,Bart Kavanagh,James Coates(c),Willie Murphy,Gordon Farrell,Mark Elliot,Philip Lowndes,Anto Stanley,Rory Keogh, Mark Matthews and also had a strong substitute bench to call on that included Pat Heary,Alan short,Matt Connelly,James Rattigan,Jonny Dutton.

For the second week in a row OLV had to start a game on a bad pitch against a very strong breeze and much like last weeks game it was the visitors who showed all the early promise, fullbacks Willie Murphy and Garreth Donovan playing brilliant, centre halves Bart Kavanagh and James Coates winning everything that came at them, wingers Anto Stanley and Gordon Farrell bombing forward and covering the full backs, centre midfield duo Philip Lowndes and Mark Elliot tackling everything that moved and passing into strikers Rory Keogh and Mark Matthews who held up well and had some good efforts saved,OLV almost created a couple of goals in the opening stages as the lightning quick Anto Stanley beat the Sevitt off-side trap and was unlucky to see his shot go wide and moments later it was like Deja vu as Mark Elliot played another perfect pass in for Stanley who was looking to score for the second game in a row and unfortunately the ball just went the wrong side of the post but the wait for the opening goal wouldn't be long as a rare Sevitt attack was broken down, the ball was played out of defense and with some quick passing through OLV's midfield the ball fell to Mark Matthews who finished well. 0-1.This goal seemed to jolt the home team to life and they put together a decent attack from the restart but keeper Dave Kelly was alert and took the ball comfortably before the Sevitt striker could reach it.

OLV doubled their lead soon after when once again the impressive Ballyfermot team played some fine football and again it was perfect through ball for Mark Matthews to race in 1 on 1 and delight his team mates with an impressive finish from just inside the box.0-2. The away team saw out the rest of the half comfortably as the midfield and defense were playing very solid and disciplined, keeper Kelly was called on just once more as he saved well from a Sevitt shot that looked to be heading into the goal.

Half-time 0-2

During the break OLV manager John Lowndes made some slight positioning changes and brought substitutes Pat Heary,Alan Short and Matt Connelly into the game and it wasn't long before their fresh legs were needed as Sevitt tried to get back in the game with some pressure and good play but it didnt last long and the wheels started to come off ,after winning a free kick in a dangerous position just outside the OLV box two of the players had some very strong words and the referee stepped in to calm things down, the matter was soon sorted ,Sevitt wasted the chance and OLV could now sense a chance to step things up and go looking for more goals which is exactly what happened when again it was Elliot playing a through ball this time for Matt Connelly who still had a lot to do and when the home keeper advanced Connelly lashed a fine shot into the back of the net.0-3. OLV made another two substitutions and looked to be coasting to victory, when with 20 minutes still to play Sevitt attacked and with the player very lucky not to be called off-side he had a shot the was saved by Kelly but the rebound fell kindly and was scored well.1-3.

Once more the home team were rejuvenated and probably started to believe they could score again and try get something from the game but OLV didnt allow that to happen and almost scored again when James Rattigan set up Bart Kavanagh whose shot went just over the bar, this was tuning to a good end to end game now and Sevitt had another go this time they were correctly called off-side and with time running down OLV held on to the ball better, pressed Sevitt back and should have been given a forth goal when Mark Matthews corner kick went straight in but the referee blew for a free out claiming a foul on the keeper and defender by an OLV player this was pretty much the last action of the game and OLV were fully deserved of the points when the full-time whistle blew .

Full-time 1-3.

Once again well done to all the team
