For the third game in a row OLV have been beaten by a single goal and in another game that they should have easily won. OLV started really well and had their opponents under the kosh from the very first minute. Wave after wave of attack yielded nothing with chances going a-begging from all angles of the park. Mark Elliot was a constant thorn in the Irishtown's side and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions early on. Alas it was the home team who scored first from the spot, after Dave Kelly was harshly adjudged to have brought down an attacking player in the box 1-0.
OLV pressed harder looking for the equaliser and as the half moved towards its finale, Mark Elliot got his reward when he got onto the end of a beautifully flighted cross and tapped the ball home from close range. Half Time 1-1
The second half began with OLV continuing the onslaught and Irishtown's backs were really firmly against the wall, surely there could only be one winner! OLV time after time came close to the goal that could seal this game, as Irishtown could barely get a sniff of an opportunity at the other end. The entire OLV squad were playing with passion and determination, Irishtown somehow managed to repel attack after attack that should have seen the away team put this game to bed.
Unfortunately for OLV as the game drew to a close, it was Irishtown who got the winner, from inside the six yard box an attempted clearance ricocheted off the shoulder of an Irishtown player and found the bottom corner of the net as the OLV keeper stretched in vain to keep the ball out. Full Time 2-1
Once again there were far too many players to mention for playing their part in a great game, but here is the list anyway
Dave Kelly
Bart Kavanagh, Martin Dunican, Neil Ferry, James Coates
Alan Short, Philip Lowndes, Anto Stanley, Gordon Farrell,
Mark Elliot, Pat Heary,
Jonny Dutton, Paddy McEvoy, Mick Collins, Ian Clifford, Gareth Donovan
