OLV 6 (N.Stapleton 2, M.Dunican, G.Farrell 2, A.Short) Emu Sevitt 1

OLV have climbed up to 2nd place in the Division 2 Table with a 6-1 demolition of a 10 man Emu Sevitt.  The game had barely started when Emu Sevitts luck ran out. Right Full Mick Collins started the move when he intercepted a Sevitt through ball and it was Noel Stapleton who finished it off by lobbing the ball over the away teams keeper and right into the back of the empty net, a cool finish indeed!

What a start to the game, 1-0 OLV and no more than 30 seconds gone.

Sevitt had to battle bravely to try to keep the score down and only had a couple of half chances in the first half as the home team dominated.  OLV were guilty of spurning a hatful of chances and should really have been further ahead by the half time whistle.  The unusual highlight of the first half came when referee Berkovic awarded a free kick to Sevitt and gave Dave 'Bart' Kavanagh a verbal warning for belching on the pitch, in Bart's defence there was no pre-match warning about this from the referee.

Half time 1-0

The second half proved too much for the away side as they quickly conceded another goal,  Martin Dunican was the scorer of OLVs second with a powerful header, 2-0.   Soon after Noel Stapleton brought his tally for the season up to four in four games, when he scored his second of the day, with another cool finish 3-0.  Sevitt pulled a goal back midway through the second half which momentarily seemed to give them some hope with the score now at 3-1.

Alas that little ray of hope was soon quashed when OLVs Gordon Farrell put the tie well out of reach as he found the back of the net to end a tidy move with a tidy finish, 4-1.   The goal of the game then came from Alan Short who sent a piledriver past a hapless Seviit keeper to make it 5-1 and Farrell rounded off the scoring from the penalty spot after Derek Dunne was taken down in the box to make it 6-1,  his second of the game.

It was a deserved victory albeit against 10 men and even though the OLV finishing was a little lacklustre in the first half, they ran out comfortable winners in the end.  Before the game ended though, our Belching Bart wasn't the only player to be penalised for the unusual misdemeanor, a Sevitt midfielder was also to feel the wrath of the ref for his lack of on pitch manners in the beautiful game.  A game played in great spirits and a win that helps lift OLV35s to the new high of 2nd place in the current table.
