OLV 0 Baldoyle 2

OLV threw away any opportunity they had, to wrestle a league title away from St Maelrauns with a poor performance against Baldoyle on Sunday morning.

OLV created plenty of chances early on and could have easily have taken the lead but for some poor finishing in a game best forgotten for most.  With the pressure on the Baldoyle goal mounting minute after minute throughout the first half,  OLV easily looked the most likely winners on the day, until an error gifted the Baldoyle team a surprise 0-1 lead.  OLV although deserving, just could not capitalise on their dominance to find an equalising goal before the half time whistle.

With OLV seeking that elusive equaliser and the game flowing from end to end, it has to be said it was a game of heart in the mouth stuff.  It wasn't until later in the game things got a little scrappy and with a point still there for the taking, OLV again gifted Baldoyle a goal.  A silly free-kick awarded on the edge of the box was driven into the corner of the net 0-2 and Baldoyle saw out the rest of the game without the need for panic.

OLV will rue this result as it allows the league title to go to St Maelrauns without a proper fight however, let us not forget that the season is not over yet!

We still have a fight on our hands if we want to secure a Runners-Up berth, a Cup Final berth and possibly a medal or two to cap off a long hard fought season.

CAN WE DO IT, WATCH THIS SPACE!
