Irishtown 1 OLV 5 (G.Farrell, A.Short, D.Dunne, A.Stanley2)

OLV kept their Dan Grimes Cup hopes well and truly alive, as they marched triumphantly through to the Semi-finals with a comprehensive victory over Irishtown.  The game was a benchmark of how OLV have improved over this last season and another old foe was put to the sword by a revamped OLV outfit.

OLV Started somewhat slowly but the were still good enough to take the challenge to Irishtown and were 1-0 up before the half when Gordon Farrell converted his spot kick quite diligently.  As the game progressed it was OLV who seemed to dominate in possession and had the best of the few half chances available. That was until Irishtown capitalised as OLV were caught napping and a through ball was tucked home to make it 1-1.
Half time 1-1.

As the second half began, OLV seemed to have more urgency about their play and the possession was now well and truly now with the away side.  Irishtown were struggling to get the ball into their opponents half and their players were beginning to struggle with the pressure.  With only a few minutes gone in the second half Alan 'Chalky' Short picked up the ball outside the box and dispatched his shot brilliantly into the back of the Irishtown net from distance. 2-1 OLV

The entire OLV outfit were playing well, creating some good chances and making the Irishtown lads look somewhat unconvincing as a unit.  OLV then capitalised on what was becoming an aggressively fought affair as Irishtown tried to bully.  But it was OLV who did all the bullying both on and off the ball as the Irishtown challenge died in a whimper,  A very good brace from Anto Stanley and a header from Derek Dunne rocketed OLV 5-1 into the lead and the Semi-Finals of the Cup.

Captain Pat Heary must be given praise for his role on the day and James Coates was once again in fantastic form as he battled and won almost every ball. Gordon Farrel was also impressive as were so many including Alan Short, Neil Ferry and Anto Stanley to mention a few..............
