Before the game started, it was nice to see everyone observing a minutes silence and giving a round of applause in memory of our former Goalkeeper Derek Ward. We went onto the pitch believing that we were going to win this tie in Derek's memory however, there were so many factors we had to overcome on the day.
With a couple of first choice names unavailable, some of the starting eleven out of position and losing our new goalkeeper to injury, at 1-0 up and less than half an hour gone, our task was difficult at best.
We soon fell behind and trailed 2-1 from before half-time until Deco Byrne equalised in the second half. The game finished 2-2 but there is little to say as we are all very disappointed with the end result.
Pat Heary got himself on the score sheet once again with another of his high flying free kicks. You are never out of any game as long as you have Deco Byrne in your side, he too showed us once again his fantastic ability to score when tucking the ball past the Glenville keeper with ease. Willie Murphy came back from injury and as a second half substitute inspired with his performance. Keith Reid could have had helped to send Glenville out of the cup if he had finished from close range but having said that, Glenville could have been over the finish line earlier had Rory Keogh not made some smart saves.
Although disappointed that this game got away from us, we did our best to honour Wardy's memory and we wish Glenville the very best of luck for the rest of the competition.
