On a bad pitch, OLV had the chance to put this game to bed early on, but it seemed that last ball was going to thwart every effort. OLV had many chances to find the elusive killer pass and almost did on several ocassions but the pitch played a major part in keeping the scoreline at 0-0.
OLV finally broke the deadlock on 30 mins when Deco Byrne's clinical pass found Noel Stapleton who sent the ball neatly home from near the penalty spot, into the bottom right corner.
Clontarf were all over the place and were very lucky not to be further in arrears before halftime. When the game restarted OLV were dealt a couple of hammer blows, firstly from a corner when the ball was headed home from 4 yards and then a wayward pass from substitute Martin Dunican allowed Clontarf in for their second, 2-1 to the home side.
Martin Dunican however did make amends for his mistake later, a James Coates free kick from the sideline was delivered in style and Martin made no mistake with his head having very determinedly muscled his way to the ball, 2-2.
Some good performances of note Rory Keogh had a solid performance between the sticks, Dave Kavanagh put in a terrific 90 minutes at the centre of defence as did Gordon Farrel who later moved into the middle of the park.
Neil Ferry and Philip Lowndes also played a big part in what really was a good result on the day!
